Philippines sets new record high of 4,963 COVID-19 cases, total now over 98k


The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines grew to 98,232 on Saturday after another record-high 4,963 new infections were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH).

Meanwhile, 93 more cases have recovered bringing the total number of recoveries to 65,265. Seventeen deaths were added, bringing the total to 2,039.

The total active cases are now 30,928.

 

Of the 4,963 additional cases reported today, 4,841 (98%) occurred in July and 3,981 (80%) cases occurred within the recent 14 days (July 19 to August 1).

The top regions with cases within the recent 14 days were Metro Manila (2,087 or 52%), Region 4A (959 or 24%) and Region 7 (223 or 6%).

Of the 17 deaths, 13 (76%) were in July and 4 (24%) in June. Deaths were from Metro Manila (5 or 29%), Region 4A (5 or 29%), Region 7 (4 or 24%), Region 1 (2 or 12%), and Region 9 (1 or 6%).

There were eighty-five (85) duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, six (6) recovered cases and one (1) death have been removed.

The DOH said these numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation. 

The latest tally was based on the total tests done by 74 out of 94 current operational labs. -MDM, GMA News
