Passengers with canceled flight, sea travel to get free accommodation amid MECQ —DOTr

Passengers whose flight and sea travel were canceled amid the modified enhanced community quarantine will be given free accommodation by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Interviewed on GMA Network’s Unang Hirit on Tuesday, Assistant Secretary Goddes Hope Libiran said passengers whose trips were scheduled within 48 hours will receive the assistance.

“Kapag  po sila ay may mga canceled flights within 48 hours, binibigyan po sila ng free accommodation at food ng mga ahensya under DOTr,” Libiran said.

In a message to GMA News Online, she clarified that the accommodation will be available in the actual facility where the passengers are stranded.

“Papapasukin sila sa airport at ports, example sa NAIA and North Harbor kung within 48 hours ang flight nila o sea travel. Doon libre accommodation nila. At papakainin sila three times a day,” she said.

Passengers will only have to present a ticket, travel authority, and medical certificate to receive the assistance from the DOTr, according to Libiran.

Due to travel restrictions related to community quarantine in June, many passengers got stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport waiting for available flights.

The passengers lamented the late notice of flight cancellations that forced them to stay and sleep outside terminals with no food.

Responding to calls from medical frontliners, President Rodrigo Duterte placed Metro Manila and other high-risk areas back under MECQ for 15 days, effective Tuesday, amid the COVID-19 threat. -Joviland Rita/MDM, GMA News
