PhilHealth exec threatens legal action vs. witness in Senate probe

PhilHealth Senior Vice President Rodolfo Del Rosario on Tuesday warned a Board member of the state health insurer for tagging him as a member of an alleged "mafia" pocketing public funds.

During a Senate hearing on corruption issues at PhilHealth, Board member Alejandro Cabading alleged that several top officials were members of a syndicate operating within the corporation, including Del Rosario, Senior Vice Presidents Renato Limsiaco Jr. and Dennis Mas, and Corporate Secretary Jonathan Mangaoang.

"I deny that I am a member of any mafia or syndicate in this corporation. We have been fighting against corruption against people who are actually committing grave abuses in this corporation," Del Rosario manifested.

"I have nothing to do with any fraud or any corrupt activity in this corporation and if Mr. Cabading is not able to substantiate his allegations, we will take the necessary legal action. He should not just take for granted 'yung mga buhay ng mga tao at ia-anounce na miyembro po kami ng sindikato, kami nga po ang lumalaban sa sindikato dito," he added.

"Siya nga ang may ginagawang kalokohan eh. Sasabihin namin during the executive session," Del Rosario further warned.

During the same hearing, resigned anti-fraud officer Thorrsson Montes Keith tagged the whole executive committee as a "mafia."

PhilHealth chief Ricardo Morales requested an executive session with the senators but Senate President Vicente Sotto III said he will not entertain the motion if Morales only wanted to explain his side.

"If you are going to name names, then we are going to allow you; I will entertain your motion for an executive session. But if you're merely going to explain your side, you can explain your side here openly," Sotto said.

Morales denied that he was a coddler of corrupt officials at PhilHealth.

Mas, who is SVP for the Management Services Sector, refuted the allegations about the questionable promotion of PhilHealth executives with pending complaints linked to the ghost  dialysis scam.

He said that having pending complaints against them does not disqualify executives from being promoted.

Limsiaco, who is SVP for the Fund Management Sector, meanwhile, denied manipulating PhilHealth's financial reports.

The two senior vice presidents and Mangaoang also denied their alleged membership in the alleged mafia within PhilHealth. — BM, GMA News
