Ruben Ecleo Jr. to be transferred to Bilibid

Ruben Ecleo, Jr., the former congressman who was found guilty of murdering his wife, will be transferred to the New Bilibid Prison on Wednesday, an official confirmed. 

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said they were informed that Ecleo would be brought to the national penitentiary "after lunch."

Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete later said Ecleo was turned over to Bilibid at 2 p.m.

Ecleo was arrested in Pampanga last week

, years after he was sentenced to prison for murdering his wife, who was found decomposing in a ravine in January 2002. 

He was the subject of an arrest warrant for graft issued by the Sandiganbayan First Division.

He and his driver were brought to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City last July 30. 

Ecleo is the leader of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association.

He was also previously convicted of graft over an allegedly anomalous construction project when he was mayor of San Jose town in Surigao del Norte from 1991 to 1994. —KG/BM, GMA News
