Palace: 50% of public school classrooms in NCR to be used as temporary quarantine facilities

Half of public school classrooms in Metro Manila will be used as temporary quarantine facilities as the government strengthens its response to the COVID-19 crisis.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said on Wednesday that the Department of Education and the Department of Health agreed on the arrangement.

Roque, however, did not provide additional details.

Earlier, Roque said Education Secretary Leonor Briones approved the use of public schools as COVID-19 isolation centers until the end of the year.

“Resumption of face-to-face classes is set in January 2021, if and when a vaccine and /or medicinal drug is expected to be produced,” he added.

The upcoming school year will begin on August 24. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
