Jolo placed under lockdown after deadly explosions


Jolo has been placed under lockdown following the two explosions that hit the Sulu town on Monday, a military official said on Monday.

"Nagdeclare ng lockdown immediately kanina noong after the second explosion para nang sa gayon ay mapreempt pa natin 'yung planong atrocities," 11th Infantry Division spokesman Lieutenant General Rolando Mateo told Super Radyo dzBB.

Mateo said the town's crisis committee would determine until when the lockdown would last.

He assured the public that the police and the military were in control of the situation in the area.

"Ang situation ngayon is already controlled by security forces both by the Joint Task Force Sulu and the Philippine National Police," Mateo said.

As of early evening on Monday, the Western Mindanao Command said the Jolo explosions had killed a suicide bomber, six civilians, seven soldiers, and a policeman.

Injured were 48 civilians, 21 soldiers, and six police officers.The military said the Abu Sayyaf Group was behind the attack.

The first explosion happened when a bomb, placed in a motorcycle, exploded while the second blast was triggered by a female suicide bomber. -NB, GMA News
