Detainee grabs policewoman's gun, gets killed after shooting cops

A detainee at the Mandaluyong City police station was killed on Thursday afternoon after he allegedly tried to grab the gun of a policewoman and shot at police officers.

Initial investigation showed that detainee Emerson Bernaldez, 39, grabbed the service firearm of Police Corporal Michelle de Jesus and shot her around 4:30 p.m.

Police Corporal Shane Managtag saw the incident and tried to help De Jesus. He and Bernaldez exchanged gunfire.

Managtag was shot in the abdomen area, while de Jesus sustained wounds in her right arm.

Police Staff Sergeant Daniel Gacho chased the suspect and shot him, resulting in Bernaldez's death.

The Eastern Police District SOCO is currently investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, the two wounded police officers are currently getting treatment. -NB, GMA News
