Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) workers and some regional vice presidents are optimistic that their new chief Dante Gierran can resolve the issues hounding the state insurer.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV on Tuesday, PhilHealth Davao regional vice president (VP) Dennis Adre said that the VPs in the 'conscience bloc' are open to work with Gierran.

"We, as always, the conscience bloc is willing and ready to work with a new leader. We welcome the appointment of a lawyer and a certified public accountant,” Adre said.

In a separate interview, PhilHealth Workers for Hope, Integrity, Transparency, and Empowerment vice president Bryan Jabay, meanwhile, admitted that they were not expecting President Rodrigo Duterte to appoint someone outside the board.

“We were actually surprised. We were not expecting coming from the outside ang ilalagay ng Pangulo,” Jabay said.

“We hope na mangyayari ngayon kasi marami nang nagdaan na presidente at medyo nagkakaproblema. We hope na merong mangyari ngayon na positive naman,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Gierran admitted that he is wary to lead the government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) considering that he lacks experience in public health but he appealed to the people to give PhilHealth a chance.

Despite the lack of experience, the former National Bureau of Investigation director pointed out that his experience as investigator, lawyer, and accountant would help solve the issues surrounding PhilHealth.

“We hope na makikinig at talagang tutukan. Dating NBI naman siya, dati naman siyang agent, abogado rin, at the same time CPA ho siya, so kayang kaya,” Jabay said.
