Metro Manila LGUs want postponement of voter registration —Palace

Local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila will ask the government to postpone the voter registration which was scheduled to resume on Tuesday, Malacañang said.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the LGUs wanted the registration to be moved to January 2021 or in the event that Metro Manila will be placed under modified general community quarantine, whichever comes earlier.

Roque said the matter is subject to the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier announced the September 1 resumption of voter registration, except in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ.

The poll body had “strongly recommended” that downloaded forms be filled out before going to the Comelec office for registration.

Other precautions include limiting the number of people to be allowed inside the Comelec offices to ensure compliance with physical distancing requirements, requiring applicants to wear face masks and face shields, and encouraging them to bring their own pens.

Registrants will also be required to fill out a health declaration form which discloses information relating to travel, contact with people with known COVID-19 infection, and symptoms being experienced.

Persons showing symptoms of COVID-19 infection will not be allowed to enter the Comelec office, and will be advised to seek medical assistance. —LDF, GMA News
