How close is Duque to Duterte? GMA’s resident analyst Heydarian explains

Despite the allegations of corruption against Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, President Rodrigo Duterte’s faith and trust remained with the secretary.  

GMA’s resident political analyst Richard Heydarian explained the possible reason why on Stand for Truth on Friday.

According to Heydarian, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque had previously emphasized that the President was not only close to Duque but is also close to his brother, Atty. Gonzalo Duque. 

“He is very close to the brother of Secretary Duque, Atty. Gonz Duque,” Roque had said.

Heydarian said Gonzalo was among the few who welcomed Duterte in Dagupan City when he was running for President. Both Gonzalo and Duterte  graduated from the San Beda College of Law. 

Gonzalo also served under the Duterte administration as the administrator of the Philippine Coconut Authority in 2019.  

According to Heydarian, the Duque family is a prominent family in Dagupan. He added that they have also been major players in Philippine politics for a time.
