The number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the New Bilibid Prison has been reduced to 15 cases from the over 400 infections previously reported, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said Saturday.

This morning ay 15 po 'yung na-report ng ating Health Service na active case,” BuCor spokesperson Colonel Gabriel Chaclag said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.

Chaclag said that in the past few months the NBP management learned from how to quickly isolate convicts who showed COVID-19 symptoms.

Meanwhile, convicted former mayor Antonio Sanchez was being treated for his other ailments in a government hospital. The former mayor tested negative for COVID-19.

“Bagama’t negative ‘yung kanyang swab test ay mayroon pa siyang ibang ailments katulad ng community-acquired pneumonia and gastroenteritis, hypertension, at may mga iba pa,” Chaclag said. — DVM, GMA News
