The number of COVID-19 cases at the House of Representatives climbed to 76 on Thursday when a member of Gabriela Women's Party Representative Arlene Brosas' congressional staff was confirmed to have the virus, after the congresswoman announced her own positive status.

House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales confirmed the development in a statement shared with reporters on Thursday.

According to Montales, the congressional staff member went to the House on September 1, but he did not have any significant contact with employees from other offices.

Meanwhile, another confirmed case has recovered from the disease, Montales said, bringing the total number of active cases in the House to 15.

Brosas on Wednesday announced that she has tested positive for COVID-19, which she believes she contracted from exposure at the House last September 2.

She nevertheless said she already feels fine and vowed to continue participating in the ongoing budget deliberations at the House and push for a higher budget for health and other social services. — BM, GMA News
