Philippines records 12th straight day with over 3k cases as COVID-19 total rises to 283k

The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported 3,962 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the nationwide tally to 283,460.

This marks the twelfth consecutive day where over 3,000 cases were reported.

Most of the new cases reported came from the National Capital Region with 1,440, followed by Bulacan with 354, Cavite with 287, Laguna with 222, and Batangas with 213.

Eighty-three percent or 3,286 of the newly reported cases acquired the virus in the past 14 days. A total of 28 cases were also removed from the total case count.

According to the DOH, total recoveries rose to 209,885 after 1,128 more patients have also recovered from the illness while 100 new fatalities brought the death toll to 4,930.

Meanwhile, 66 of the new deaths occurred in September, 16 in August, seven in July, four in June, and seven in April.

Of the remaining 68,645 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 87.4 percent are mild, 9 percent are asymptomatic, 1.1 percent are severe, and 2.5 percent are in critical condition.

At present, the Philippines has 128 licensed laboratories that have tested a total of 3,130,345 million individuals.

Meanwhile, 50 percent of the country’s intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients are occupied while 27 percent of mechanical ventilators are in use. -MDM, GMA News
