Over 227k contact tracers deployed nationwide, says Galvez

A total of 227,648 contact tracers have already been deployed nationwide as part of the government’s efforts to address the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said Monday.

In a nationally televised briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte, Galvez said the country now has 25,767 contact tracing teams.

“Ang na-train sa pangunguna ni Mayor (Benjamin) Magalong at saka ni Secretary (Eduardo) Año, 43% na po at nag-improve na po ang close contact ratio to 1:5. Dati 1:3 lang at iaakyat na natin to 1:10, 1:15, hanggang makuha at least 1:20,” Galvez said.

“Ang maganda po ang contact tracing ay 94% ‘yong first contact ay nakukuha within doon sa binigay na panahon,” he added.

Meanwhile, Galvez said Metro Manila has been aggressive in isolating positive cases.

“Nakapagtala po tayo ng more than 18,423 sa mga mega quarantine facility at sa mga hotels, may 7,007 na na-isolate,” he said.

Galvez added that about 320,000 in the National Capital Region have already been tested.

Total patients isolated in NCR, Region 3 and Region 4A are at 25,430, Galvez said.

In can be recalled that a report on “24 Oras” in late August, contact tracers nationwide  are already getting exhausted in light of the health crisis as they are getting overwhelmed with the increase in the number of daily cases in the country.

“Pagod na pagod na rin po ang ating mga contact tracers, especially kung walang relyebo,” contact tracing czar and Baguio City Mayor Magalong said.

“To be honest with you, kulang na lang sabihin din nila ‘puwede ho ba time out din kami?’” he added.

Nationwide, cases of COVID-19 ballooned to 290,190 on Monday with 230,233 recoveries and 4,999 deaths. -- BAP, GMA News
