LTO-7 director apologizes to Roque after word war over corruption claims

The director of the Land Transportation Office-Region 7 (LTO-7) on Thursday apologized to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque after he frankly responded to the latter’s corruption claims against him.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, LTO-7 regional director Victor Caindec said that he already reached out to Roque to explain himself.

“Baka lang siguro, nasaktan o nagkamali, hindi po tayo sanay sa pamamalakad sa pulitika at gobyerno dahil nga nanggaling tayo sa private sector,” Caindec said.

“Sabi ko, ‘Pasensya na po at nasagot ko po kayo nang diretsahan pero it was not meant to insult you even to make you feel na lumalaban po ako,’” he added.

On Tuesday, Roque accused Caindec of extorting money from motorcycle distributors. Caindec responded and denied the accusation.

“Sabi ko Secretary, baka lang hindi ninyo po nakita na meron na akong mga sinumiteng report dyan sa LTO at saka sa Department of Transportation,” Caindec said.

According to Caindec, the accusations were being used to make him stop the investigation being conducted by LTO-7 on questionable car dealerships.

He claimed they were also being bombarded with 600 demand letters from law firms, including one linked to Roque.

“Dahil nanggagaling ako sa isang kultura na kailangang sagutin punto por  punto ang tanong, sinagot ko lang  po,” Caindec said.

On Wednesday, Roque said no one is stopping Caindec from pursuing the investigation on the alleged anomalies in LTO.

“Go on with the investigation and pursue it until the end,” the Palace official said.

“After all, all public officials, including you and me, must have a common advocacy on good governance and zero tolerance against corruption that takes advantage of the sad plight of the Filipino people.”

He also said the motive behind his revelation about Caindec is “as clear as the sun rises in the east.”

“I stand for good government and the Filipinos deserve no less,” he said.—AOL, GMA News
