DepEd eyes hiring helpers for teachers, students with up to P11,000 pay

The Department of Education (DepEd) is crafting the policy and guidelines on hiring para-teachers or learning support aides who will assist teachers and students in blended learning.

In a press conference on Monday, Education Undersecretary Jess Mateo said the teaching assistants will work together with the educators in providing learning through various modalities.

“Ano po ba ang rationale ng hiring na ito? Unang-una, to support teachers and parents in the delivery of basic education services to the learner in this time of new normal,” he said.

Mateo said the learning support aides will guide students and households, render assistance to teachers, as well as monitor and track the progress of learners.

The salary for para-teachers ranges from P6,000 to P11,000 per month, according to Mateo.

Applicants should be 21 to 59 years old and at least a senior high school graduate or with two years of study in college to be qualified, even without training and experience, he added.

Preferably,  Mateo said the applicants reside with the community of teachers and students.

However, he said they target to hire existing applicants in DepEd for the 2020-2021 school year, provisional teachers in senior high schools, and Licensure Examination for Teachers passers.

Mateo said the DepEd will consider merit and fitness, location, learner-teacher ratio, and profile of households when hiring the teaching assistants.

School division offices and schools will determine the need of para-teachers in their areas. When the concerned schools open the application, applicants can contact them and submit required documents.

The teaching assistants will be hired under job order for at least six months and will be subject for renewal. — RSJ, GMA News
