DOLE: 10,000 job openings in BPO sector, more in health, construction

Over 10,000 slots for jobs in business process outsourcing (BPO), health, and construction sectors will be made available to individuals looking for employment amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced Friday.

According to JP Soriano’s report on “24 Oras,” DOLE said the job openings for the IT and BPO sectors are in the National Capital Region.

The department said more call center agents are needed for hospitals, medical technology providers and diagnostic centers, especially as other industries migrated to digital and online transactions.

“Mas matindi ang pangangailangan dito dahil halos lahat ng sector is being driven already by technology,” DOLE Assistant Secretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay said.

In the public employment service of Quezon City, there are around 400 job openings in call centers from four BPO companies.

The starting salary in the BPO industry ranges from P18,000 to P25,000 per month. Some employees may work from home while others are office-based.

“Kailangan kang maghanap ng other skills lalo na kung ‘yung dati mong trabaho ay hindi pa available ngayon,” QC Employment Section Division chief Joe Alex Macabulos said.

Aside from the BPO industry, there are also job openings in hospitals for nurses, factory workers, sales and merchandising.

DOLE said that employees for the construction sector are still in demand, especially heavy equipment operators and safety engineers.
