VP CAMP: WE'RE JUST WORKING

Roque to Robredo: Stop politicking, get ratings boost

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday offered unsolicited advice to Vice President Leni Robredo whose recent job approval and trust ratings were lower compared to other high officials in government.

Robredo’s approval rating slightly went down to 57% in September 2020 from 58% in December 2019, according to independent pollster Pulse Asia. Her trust rating slipped to 50% from 53% previously.

Other top government officials such as President Rodrigo Duterte, Senate President Vicente Sotto III, and House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano had approval and trust ratings ranging from 67% to 91% in September.

Robredo has been vocal about the government’s pandemic response, saying that the Duterte administration did not have a clear direction on how to address the COVID-19 crisis.

The Palace disputed Robredo’s claim by touting government measures that resulted in the relatively low mortality rate for COVID-19 and improvement in the hospitals’ capacity to treat severe and critical cases.

But Robredo’s camp maintained that the poll results showed that the Vice President was not politicking as the public’s support on her remain strong.
