Dive resorts in areas under GCQ, MGCQ may accept recreational divers — Palace

Dive establishments and resorts in areas under general community quarantine or modified general community quarantine have been allowed by the government to accept recreational divers as guests who are from those places as well.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque made the statement on Friday following the meeting of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) on Thursday.

He said the DOT shall issue the necessary guidelines in coordination and consultation with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Philippine National Police and the identified local government units.

"The DOT shall determine destination localities where interzonal movement for purposes of the same may be permitted, taking into consideration the general preparedness of the area and its impact on the tourism industry, and shall issue the necessary guidelines therefor, which shall include a test-before-travel requirement," the IATF said.

The government has started the gradual reopening of tourist spots such as Boracay and Baguio City to help restore the jobs lost by many Filipinos dependent on tourism, which was badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
