DepEd apologizes for errors in blended-learning modules

The Department of Education said on Friday that it had not yet confirmed if all the error-filled distance-learning modules that went viral on social media came from the DepEd.

According to Mariz Umali’s report on “24 Oras,” netizens had pointed to such errors as students being instructed to match crayons with their respective color names despite the module being printed in black and white.

In another module, students were asked to find the letter “L” in the word “rabbit.”

“Kasi ‘yung lahat ng pino-post sa social media, ang perception ng tao, kasalanan ni DepEd. But may mga naa-identity kami na hind naman sa amin,” DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said.

Nevertheless, the agency apologized for learning module errors that slipped past their quality assurance protocols.

“Sincerest apologies sa mga nao-offend o sumasama ang loob na hindi namin ito nape-perpekto. Sa ngayon po talaga hindi pa operational ‘yung pinaka ideal naming quality assurance mechanism,” San Antonio said.

According to the agency, there are centrally certified self-learning modules (SLMs) created by master teachers, supervisors, and specialists at the DepEd Central Office.

However, due to lack of time, some of these modules were created at regional offices, though these had to be submitted to the Central Office for distribution.

“‘Yun nga nag co-cope lahat. Overwhelming talaga, hindi naman tayo nagre-reklamo. Ang dami naming kailangang tapusin, kulang sa time,” San Antonio said.

The DepEd called on curriculum experts to volunteer and help in editing and correcting module errors. It also requested the public to determine the origin of modules with erroneous information so they could be traced and corrected. Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
