PCOO guests Velasco on 'Laging Handa' briefing ahead of session

Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco will be one of the interviewees in the Presidential Communications Operations Office's "Laging Handa" program on Tuesday, a media advisory has indicated.

Velasco will guest in the PCOO's program dedicated over the past months to the COVID-19 response a day after 186 House members voted to unseat Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and install the Marinduque lawmaker the new House leader.

The program will air hours before the House of Representatives' return to session at 3 p.m. to tackle the P4.5-trillion national budget for 2021.

of Velasco by his supporters appears to be a realization of the term-sharing agreement between him and Cayetano brokered no less than by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Under the original term-sharing agreement, Cayetano is expected to hold the speakership for 15 months and Velasco will take over to finish the remaining 21 months.

Last September 29, President Rodrigo Duterte met the two House leaders over the brewing speakership row.  Reports have said that Velasco was supposed to take over the helm of the House on October 14, but on October 1, a total of 184 members rejected Cayetano's offer to resign.

On October 6, the House abruptly suspended session without finishing deliberation of the 2021 budget bill and approved it on second reading, which meant that there would no longer be session on October 14, the date on which the House was supposed to elect Velasco.
