China donates oxygen delivery devices for COVID-19 patients in Philippines

China on Wednesday donated oxygen delivery devices to the Philippines to support patients with severe cases of COVID-19.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea received the 150 units of high-flow nasal cannula with 300 sets of accessories from China’s Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian in Malacañang.

“The humidifiers donated by Chinese Embassy in the Philippines will help ramp up the capacities of Philippine public hospitals and facilities in providing treatment to COVID-19 patients,” the Palace said.

“The assistance forms part of the Philippines-China partnership in addressing the global challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Palace earlier said the Philippines would purchase 200,000 units of high-flow nasal cannula.

In a separate statement, the Chinese Embassy said Medialdea appreciated China’s continuous support in helping the Philippines overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

The top Palace official also reportedly said that the Philippines stands ready to continue close cooperation with China on pandemic response and economic recovery.

Aside from high-flow humidifiers, China has also donated ventilators, test kits, surgical masks, personal protective equipment, and other medical supplies to the Philippines, the embassy said.

The Department of Health on Wednesday reported 43,990 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 83% of which are mild, 11.6% are asymptomatic, 2% are severe, and 3.4% are in critical condition. —LDF, GMA News
