Philippine COVID-19 cases breach 370,000 with 2,223 new infections

The Philippines on Sunday breached the 370,000 mark in terms of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, while 11 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths.

Data released by the DOH reported 2,223 newly-confirmed cases, bringing the total to 370,028 cases as of 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 25.

This included 328,036 total reported recoveries, of which 14,944 were reported the same day.

Most or 93% of the new cases were recorded in the last 14 days, with the most posted in the National Capital Region with 537 cases or 26%, followed by Region 4A with 397 cases or 19%, and Region 3 with 165 cases of 8%.

The DOH on Sunday also reported 43 deaths -- 16 cases (37%) from the National Capital Region; eight cases or 19% from Region 4A; three cases or 7% from Regions 5, 6, 7, 10, and 11.

"Moreover, 11 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths," the DOH said in a bulletin. No further information on the reclassification was immediately available.

The department said a total 14 duplicates were also removed from the total case count, of which nine were recovered cases.

The data does not include reports from 16 laboratories which were unable to submit their data to the COVID-19 Data Repository System.

The Philippines reported its first confirmed COVID-19 case in January, while quarantines were set in place in the country starting mid-March.
