5,000 seek refuge in Bicol evacuation centers due to Quinta


Over 5,000 individuals in the Bicol Regions were forced to seek refuge in evacuation centers, while 3,000 more were displaced, on Sunday evening due to Typhoon Quinta, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operation Center (RDRRMC) reported.

According to data from the RDRRMC, a total of 1,461 families or 5,518 individuals were in evacuation centers in Bicol, while 946 families or 3,421 individuals were displaced outside evacuation centers as of 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 25.

Quinta intensified into a typhoon on Sunday afternoon, a few hours before making landfall over San Miguel Island in Albay's Tabaco City at 6:10 p.m. on Sunday.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA's afternoon weather bulletin, Quinta had 130 kilometer per hour winds which could gust up to 160 kph.

Quinta was expected to traverse southern Luzon until Monday afternoon, then turn west-northwestward over the West Philippine Sea.

It was likely to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday afternoon. — DVM, GMA News
