Duterte to erring gov’t officials: Resignation will not save your neck

President Rodrigo Duterte has told erring government officials that resignation will not save them from criminal or administrative liability.

Addressing the nation from Davao City on Monday night, Duterte took note of the developments at the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) where more than 40 senior officials had left their posts to give way for a reorganization of the scandal-plague agency.

“Let me remind everybody in this government. Your resignation will not save your neck,” Duterte said in his address aired on Tuesday.  “You are not allowed to resign to escape liability.”

Duterte earlier ordered the filing of charges against former PhilHealth president Ricardo Morales and other officials linked by an inter-agency task force to irregularities in the  Interim Reimbursement Mechanism, procurement of ICT equipment, and policy for accountability.

Smaller teams with members from different government agencies are still pursuing investigations specifically into PhilHealth's legal and IT sectors and Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra recently said that more people may be implicated as a result. — RSJ, GMA News
