Araneta bus terminal closed as pandemic shuts cemeteries on Undas

The Araneta Center bus station, which is usually full days before All Saints’ Day, stopped operations amid the week-long closure of cemeteries from October 29 to November 4 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the Undas season.

According to Mariz Umali’s report on “Balitanghali” on Friday, the situation at the bus terminal was a lot different from previous years as there were no long lines and buses.

Only left at the terminal were security guards who implement minimum health standards amid the health crisis.

The guards said there was still no information regarding the resumption of provincial bus routes.

Earlier, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año has tasked all local government units and police chiefs to ensure that all private and public cemeteries, memorial parks, and columbaria are closed during the Undas holidays.

Año reminded that cemeteries are closed from October 29 to November 4, meaning any form of mass gatherings are not allowed.

He further ordered all police commanders across the country to help ensure that all cemeteries are compliant with quarantine protocols. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/MDM, GMA News
