Philippine COVID-19 cases breach 380,000 with 1,803 new infections


The Philippines’ tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases rose to 380,729 on Saturday with 1,803 new infections as twelve laboratories failed to submit their reports on time.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the areas with the highest number of new infections were Rizal with 97, Davao City with 93, Quezon City with 86, Cavite with 66, and Pasig City with 65.

The DOH also announced that 606 more patients have recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 331,046, while the death toll climbed to 7,221 with 36 new fatalities.

Meanwhile, of the 42,462 remaining active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 83.2 percent are mild, 11.3 percent are asymptomatic, 1.9 percent are severe, and 3.5 percent are in critical condition.

Based on data from the DOH, 56 percent of the country’s intensive care unit beds remain available while 78 percent of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use

At present, more than 45.24 million people have been reported to have COVID-19 globally and 1,183,788 have died. — DVM, GMA News
