Caritas Philippines ready to aid Rolly-affected diocese

The social action arm of the Catholics Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines on Saturday assured the public that it was ready to provide aid to any diocese that would be affected by Typhoon Rolly.

Caritas Philippines National Chairperson and Kidapawan Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo said there was active coordination between the organization with the social action centers of dioceses.

“Caritas Pilipinas is in touch and in direct contact with all our social action centers in all dioceses that may be affected by Typhoon Rolly. Caritas is ready to send fund assistance if and when needed by the dioceses damaged by this,” Bagaforo said in a statement.

“Almost all dioceses are now ready with their disaster plans as of yesterday's contacts,” he added.

Saturday afternoon due to Rolly  as the typhoon maintained its strength while moving towards the Bicol Region.

Due to this, the bishop urged residents who may be affected to follow the advisories of authorities. He also advised the public to pray, stressing that this was an effective protection against calamities.

“Panawagan po natin sa lahat ng madadaan ng bagyong Rolly na sundin po ang mga payo ng ating LGUs at Simbahan na maghanda po.. Malakas po itong bagyo! Higit sa lahat po ay mag-alay tayo ng dasal,” Bagforo said.

“Tested and proven po, please pray the Holy Rosary at hingin natin po ilayo tayo sa kapahamakan.. Na sana yakapin tayo ng pagmamahal ni Mama Mary,” he added.

Philippine officials ordered the evacuation of thousands of residents in the southern part Luzon as Rolly, a category 5 storm that is the world's strongest this year, approached the country.
