Duterte to visit Legazpi City, other Rolly-hit areas on Monday —Bong Go

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to visit on Monday Legazpi City and other areas struck by SuperTyphoon Rolly, a day after it wreaked havoc on provinces in the eastern seaboard of Luzon.

Senator Bong Go confirmed the President's visit during an interview at the Laging Handa briefing.

'Yung mga hardest hit ay kanyang bibisitahin," he said.

Aside from Legazpi City, Duterte will also visit other areas in Albay, Go said, but he did not specify them.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed this.

"It’s confirmed that PRRD will be flying from Davao to Manila today. En route to Manila he will be conducting an aerial inspection in Bicolandia and Calabarzon," Roque said in a statement.

At least 10 individuals have died following the onslaught of Rolly, of which nine were from Albay.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also reported that more than two million individuals from 12 regions have been affected by the tropical cyclone.

Go said that in visiting the calamity-hit areas, the President no longer wants to disrupt the ongoing relief efforts of the government.

"Pupunta siya sa mga hardest-hit areas na siya lang, hindi siya makaka-istorbo," he said.

"Pagkatapos niya bisitahin ang mga tinamaang lugar, tutuloy siya at makikipagpulong siya sa mga Gabinete including sa NDRRMC para umpisahan na agad ang recovery efforts at restore back to normalcy ang sitwasyon," he added.

Go also disputed claims that the President was missing in action amid the onslaught of Rolly.

The President was in Davao City when the tropical cyclone hit parts of Luzon on Sunday.

Rolly, downgraded to a tropical storm, maintained its strength late Monday morning while moving westward over the West Philippine Sea, according to PAGASA's latest update.

By Tuesday morning, Rolly is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility.
