By ANNA FELICIA BAJO, GMA News

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Tuesday refused to identify the local chief executives who need to explain their supposed absence during the onslaught of super typhoon Rolly.

Año, however, told GMA News Online that the concerned local officials are all mayors. Two are from Northern Luzon, four are from MIMAROPA, two from Bicol region, and another two from Visayas, he added.

"I cannot give their names yet until investigations are conducted and cases are filed against them," Año said.

"DILG will issue show cause orders to these mayors. After validating their answers, investigation may proceed," he added.

He warned that the mayors could face complaints for dereliction of duty and gross negligence, as well as violation of the DILG memorandum circular requiring 100% presence of local chief executives before, during, and after the typhoon.

The DILG chief has said 51 cities and 613 municipalities across 10 regions were hit by Rolly.

Rolly claimed the lives of at least 17 individuals from CALABARZON and Region V, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
