By DONA MAGSINO,GMA News

Immigration officers who had been suspended by the Ombudsman for alleged corruption within their agency will be facing President Rodrigo Duterte next week, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go said Wednesday.

Go said in an interview as he visited fire victims in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

No other details were mentioned by the senator, but the Ombudsman recently ordered a six-month suspension

of more than 40 Bureau of Immigration (BI) officials allegedly involved in the "pastillas" scheme.

The BI has fired or suspended over 80 of its personnel

for various offenses since 2016, according to its spokesperson Dana Sandoval.

Moreover, Go said the President would be disclosing the names of erring government officials as the administration continues its anti-corruption campaign.

Duterte recently ordered the creation of a mega task force that would investigate corruption in the entire government. The probe is led by the Department of Justice.

The expanded task force is currently looking into various government agencies houded by systemic corruption, according to Go.

“Marami pa po sa Immigration, sa Customs, sa Department of Public Works and Highways, sa Department of Agriculture. Lahat po ‘yan, ongoing po [ang investigation],” he said. —LBG, GMA News
