Robredo's lawyers to Bongbong Marcos: Stop acting like a spoiled brat

By LLANESCA T. PANTI, GMA News

Former senator and defeated 2016 vice presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. should stop acting like a spoiled brat in pursuing his poll protest against Vice President Leni Robredo, the Vice President’s camp said Monday.

Robredo’s lawyers Beng Sardillo and Emil Marañon III issued the statement after Marcos asked Supreme Court Associate Justice Marvic Leonen to inhibit from participating in proceedings related to his election protest against Robredo.

“We are not surprised. This is another trademark move of Mr. Marcos. If he doesn't get what he wants, he moves to attack the integrity of an institution or a person to force them to give in to his desires,” the lawyers said in a statement.

“May we remind Mr. Marcos that it’s already 2020. This is no longer the period of his father’s reign of terror where they can do anything they want.  Stop acting like a spoiled brat who cries when he doesn’t get his candy,” the lawyers added.

Robredo’s lawyers argued that while they are seeking dismissal of Marcos’ poll protest due to lack of merit, Marcos should not resort to attacking a Supreme Court  Associate Justice similar to what he did when he sought the inhibition of Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa in 2018.

This attempt by Marcos was unsuccessful.

Caguioa was initially the justice in-charge of the proceedings involving Marcos’ poll protest vs Robredo, but Caguioa lost that post when he voted to dismiss Marcos’ electoral case against Robredo in October 2019 since Marcos failed to gather substantial recovery of votes in three pilot provinces as provided under Rule 65 of the Supreme Court sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal.

The lawyers then noted that Marcos should stop lying and accept his defeat.

“Pagod na kami na hanggang ngayon, pagkatapos manalo sa eleksyon at sa recount, patuloy pa rin ang panggugulo at pagsisinungaling ni Ginoong Marcos,” they said.

“Face reality. Vice President Leni Robredo won. Twice,” they added.

After losing the manual recount by 15,000 in three pilot provinces of Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental, Marcos is now seeking to annul the votes in Basilan, Lanao del Sur, and Maguindanao over alleged poll fraud.

In response to Marcos' bid to annul votes in these provinces, Leonen asked for the opinion of the Commission on Elections, the Office of the Solicitor General, as well as the camps of Robredo and Marcos.
