Philippines’ COVID-19 cases exceed 404,000 with 1,902 new infections

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippine rose to 404,713 on Friday after the Department of Health (DOH) announced 1,902 new infections as 29 laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

This marks the fourth consecutive day where less than 2,000 cases were reported. A total of nine duplicate cases were also removed from the case count.

According to the DOH, the areas with the highest number of new infections were Cavite with 122, Davao City with 113, Quezon City with 84, Bulacan with 81, and Manila with 78.

Meanwhile, 506 more patients have recovered from the illness, bringing the total recoveries to 362,903, while 31 new fatalities brought the death toll to 7,752.

Of the 34,058 remaining active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 83.9% are mild, 9.4% are asymptomatic, 2.3% are severe, 4.3% are in critical condition, and 0.12% are in moderate condition.

Data from the DOH showed that 54% of the country’s intensive care unit beds for patients are available while 77% of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.—AOL, GMA News
