Marikina residents still cleaning traces of Ulysses' wrath

Typhoon Ulysses may have already exited the country, but Marikina City residents are still struggling to erase traces of the storm’s onslaught from their homes.

According to Maki Pulido’s “24 Oras” report on Monday, the floods in Marikina subsided late last week, leaving behind a trail of mud that residents are struggling to clean up.

Gloria Nocum, a senior citizen, said her foot has become swollen from cleaning from morning to night.

“Hapon lang po kasi nagkakatubig e. Inaabangan namin lumakas ‘yung tubig kasi hindi ka rin naman po makakapagligpit [sa] mahinang tubig,” she said.

Meanwhile, the 21 evacuation centers in the city are still occupied by thousands of displaced residents.

“‘Pag nalinis po, aalis po kami, do’n na kami. Kasi mahirap din dito ang pagpaligo, ang pag-cr,” evacuee Maria Barcia said.

Mayor Marcelino Teodoro earlier said the local government would sue the Angat Dam management for failing to inform them beforehand that it was going to release water, causing massive floods reminiscent of 2009’s Typhoon Ondoy. -NB, GMA News
