Philippines’ COVID-19 tally exceeds 413,000 with 1,337 new infections

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines rose to 413,430 on Thursday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,337 new infections as 11 laboratories failed to submit data on time.

This marks the tenth consecutive day where less than 2,000 cases were reported. Four duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

Davao City recorded the highest number of new cases with 110, followed by Laguna with 74, Quezon City with 66, Batangas with 54, and Manila with 53.

The DOH also announced that 286 more recoveries brought the total to 374,939 while the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 7,998 with 41 new fatalities.

Of the remaining 30,493 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 84.5 % of are mild, 8 % are asymptomatic, 2.5 % are severe, and 4.7 % are in critical condition.

Data from the agency also showed that 58 % of the country’s intensive care unit beds for patients are available and 79 % of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.

Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte has approved recommendations for the Philippines to enter into advance supply agreements and provide early payments to COVID-19.—AOL, GMA News
