Philippine Navy's BRP Ivatan brings national ID registration kits to Visayas

The Philippine Navy's BRP Ivatan, a heavy landing craft, on Saturday left Sangley Point in Cavite to deliver National Identification System (PhilSys) registration kits to Visayas.

The vessel carried 35,481 tons of cargoes which include 1,897 PhilSys registration kits for eight provinces, the Navy said.

The kits are for Cebu, Bohol, Iloilo, Antique, Capiz, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, and Leyte.

"This is in line with the logistics support extended by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) using its sea, air, and land assets to enable the distribution of PhilSys registration kits to 32 PSA provincial offices all over the country," the Navy said in a press release.

The Philippine Army, on the other hand, handles the distribution of PhilSys kits in Luzon, while the Philippine Air Force takes care of Mindanao.

The multi-year rollout of PhilSys and the national ID will cost the government P27.8 billion, the Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA) said.

National Statistician and NEDA Undersecretary Dennis Mapa said that starting January 2021, the registration for the national ID system will be nationwide.

This, after the PSA would have completed the first five to nine million low-income household heads to be registered in the system from October to December this year. —KG, GMA News
