Robredo: Bongbong fooling his supporters by telling them he won 2016 VP race

By LLANESCA T. PANTI,GMA News

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. is fooling his supporters by making them believe that he won the Vice Presidential race in 2016, Vice President Leni Robredo said Monday.

Robredo was responding to Marcos’ recent attempt to ban Supreme Court Associate Justice Marvic Leonen from participating in the deliberations and deciding the poll protest lodged by Marcos against Robredo.

Marcos claimed Leonen had a "palpable" bias against the Marcos family,

having opposed a hero’s burial for his namesake and father, the dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

The Supreme Court, sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), junked Marcos’ move.

“Nakakaawa iyong supporters. Kasi kapag nabasa mo, Deo, iyong mga post nila, akala talaga nila dinaya iyong kanilang boss dahil pinapapaniwala ni Mr. Marcos na ganiyan. Para sa akin, siya iyong may kasalanan sa supporters niya. Sinusubo niya iyong supporters niya sa isang bagay na kasinungalingan,” Robredo said in a DZRH interview.

“Nagsalita na iyong Kongreso noong dineclare kami, Sinabi na ng Supreme Court na ito pagkatapos na i-revise [recount] iyong mga ballots mas nadagdagan pa ako, parang walang pagtanggap. Eh ito, Deo, dinadamay niya iyong supporters niya. Dinadamay niya kasi siyempre paniwalang-paniwala sa kaniya,” Robredo added.

Robredo was referring to the three pilot provinces whose 2016 poll results were manually counted by the PET. The three pilot provinces—Camarines Sur, Negros Oriental and Iloilo—were chosen by Marcos in accordance to PET rules.

Robredo beat Marcos by 263,473 votes in the 2016 elections.

The manual recount done by PET, on the other hand, increased Robredo’s lead over Marcos by 15,000.

Rule 65 of the PET rules state that the one who filed a poll protest, in this case Marcos, should have a significant recovery of votes in at least three pilot provinces of his or her own choosing before the poll protest could proceed. Otherwise, such protest shall be dismissed.

Robredo's camp has consistently argued that the poll protest must be dismissed immediately since Marcos failed to secure significant recovery during the manual recount in pilot provinces.

Marcos is now seeking to annul the votes in Basilan, Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao over alleged poll fraud.

The PET is yet to issue any ruling supporting Marcos’ allegation. — BM, GMA News
