Philippines’ COVID-19 cases near 426,000 with 1,631 new infections

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines rose to 425,918 on Friday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,631 new infections as ten laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

According to the DOH, Quezon City recorded the highest number of new cases on Friday with 116, followed by Rizal with 101, Davao City with 95, Laguna with 89, and Manila with 65.

 

Ten duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

The DOH also announced that 370 more patients have recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 387,616, while 46 new fatalities brought the death toll to 8,255.

Of the remaining 30,047 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 84.3% are mild, 8.3% are asymptomatic, 2.5% are severe, and 4.7% are in critical condition.

Data from the DOH also showed that 60% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are available while 81% of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.

The DOH on Thursday said that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country is generally decreasing, especially in Metro Manila. However, it also saw some increase in various areas in the country.

Meanwhile, more than 60.68 million people have been infected by COVID-19 across the globe.—AOL, GMA News
