Advincula installed as cardinal in livestream ceremony –report

Pope Francis on Saturday formally elevated Archbishop Jose Advincula of Capiz, who was at his residence in Roxas City, to the rank of cardinal in a livestream ceremony from the Vatican.

According to a CBCP News report, Advincula had opted not to travel to the Vatican for the consistory due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Archdiocese spokesman Fr. Emil Arbatin told the CBCP News that Advincula watched the consistory along with some priests while wearing “choir” cassock.

Now a cardinal, the 68-year-old Advincula was eligible to vote in a conclave.

He was also one of the only two active Filipino cardinals who was now based in the Vatican, the other being Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle.

According to the Reuters news service, Advincula would receive his ring and the traditional red hat known as a biretta from a papal delegate. — DVM, GMA News
