Philippine COVID-19 tally nears 430,000 with 2,076 new cases


The Philippine tally of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases approached 430,000 as the Department of Health (DOH) reported over 2,000 more cases on Sunday.

A total of 2,076 cases were added to bring the total tally to 429,864, including 8,373 deaths and 398,624 recoveries.

On Sunday alone, the DOH reported 40 deaths and 10,579 recoveries as of 4 p.m. on November 29.

The DOH said most or 92.7% of the total, equivalent to 398,624, have recovered. Meanwhile, 5.3% or 22,867 were active cases, and 1.95% of cases or 8,373 have died due to the disease.

As of noon the same day, most of the number of new cases were from Quezon City at 137, followed by Laguna with 122, Cavite with 103, Batangas with 96, and Angeles City with 79.

The Philippines reported its first confirmed COVID-19 case in January, while quarantines were set in place in the country starting mid-March. — DVM, GMA News
