New apostolic nuncio to the Philippines arrives in Manila

The Vatican's new apostolic nuncio to the Philippines has arrived in the country, according to the Presidential Communications Operations Office.

US Archbishop Charles Brown was greeted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport by Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, Parañaque Bishop Jesse Mercado, and Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar.

From the airport, Brown visited the Mary, Mother of Good Counsel Parish Church in Parañaque City.

According to PCOO, one of Brown's first tasks is to appoint a new Archbishop of Manila to replace Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, who is now the Vatican's Prefect of Propaganda Fide, or the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

Brown, who was appointed to apostolic nuncio to the Philippines by Pope Francis in September, succeeds Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, who is now the Vatican’s Permanent Observer to the United Nations.

Brown served as apostolic nuncio to Ireland from 2011 and Albania from 2017. — BM, GMA News
