Philippines tallies 1,438 new COVID-19 cases; total hits 434,357

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines reached 434,357 on Wednesday after the Department of Health (DOH) announced 1,438 new infections as 11 laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

Davao City tallied the highest number of newly reported cases at 142, followed by Laguna with 89, Quezon City with 80, Manila City with 63, and Pampanga with 58.

The total number of recoveries also rose to 399,005 after 232 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease, while the death toll climbed to 8,436 with 18 new fatalities.

The remaining 26,916 are active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III thumbed down the gradual expansion of the age group allowed to leave their homes amid the pandemic, citing the risks involved in allowing minors to go to malls. —LDF, GMA News
