DOLE to offer over 26K job openings to OFWs who lost jobs amid pandemic

The Department of Labor and Employment announced it will offer more than 26,000 job openings in the information technology (IT) and business process outsourcing (BPO) industry to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who lost their jobs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to JP Soriano’s report on “24 Oras” on Thursday, among the possible job types are in customer service, technical support, IT support, IT developers and consultants.

“Sa ngayon po nag-uumpisa ‘yong pagtatawag, pagko-contact doon sa mga returning OFWs to offer the jobs and then ito po will run until December this year and we will follow through on the successful job matching and referral na nangyayari po ngayon. So there’s an ongoing recruitment and hiring process,” DOLE assistant secretary Dominique Tutay said.

Moreover, DOLE said, it is also looking for workers with new skills for manufacturing companies.

DOLE urged OFWs to learn new skills through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) or through online skills training from private sectors.

“Dahil po may shift pagdating dito sa skills, kinakailangan po ng kaunting push pagdating sa training ng ating mga manggagawa,” Tutay said. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
