Netherlands donates €600k to typhoon victims in the Philippines

The government of the Netherlands has donated €600,000 to the victims of Typhoon Rolly and Ulysses in the Philippines.

In a statement on Friday, Netherlands Ambassador to the Philippines Saskia de Lang announced that the disaster relief fund will be channeled through the Netherlands Red Cross and will focus on the following:

The Embassy of the Netherlands in the Philippines also said an additional amount of €350,000 has been collected by the Netherlands Red Cross through a public campaign for funds in favor in the Philippines.

“On behalf of The Netherlands government, I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to the people and the Government of the Philippines over the losses of lives, the displacement of families and the widespread damages to property and infrastructure,” de Lang said.

“Both the Philippines and the Netherlands are vulnerable to extreme weather. Climate change worsens this situation. We stand with the Philippines in these difficult times and we will continue to cooperate on climate adaptation, water management and disaster risk reduction. But for now, we focus on the immediate humanitarian response,” she added.

Ulysses claimed at least 37 lives in the Philippines, while Rolly, the most powerful typhoon in the world this year, killed 25 people and destroyed thousands of homes and properties.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
