The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Thursday said the COVID-19 recovery rate among persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) has reached over 90%.

At the Laging Handa press briefing, BJMP spokesman Jail Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said there are only 88 active COVID-19 cases out of the 1,987 infections since the beginning of the pandemic.

"Tuloy-tuloy po 'yung pagbuti ng mga pasyente po natin na na-infect particular diyan sa Davao City Jail," Solda said.

"Mayroon na lamang tayong 88 cases nationwide, more than 90% 'yung ating recovery rate at tatlong jails na lang po in the country, we have 470 jails across the country, at sampu na lang po 'yung tinitingnan natin ngayon," he added.

When it comes to infected BJMP personnel, Solda said the total number has reached 1,017. Of that number, 32 are still active.

"We are hoping na both sa PDL at personnel, ma-zero po natin," Solda said.

Solda said the visitation for inmates this Christmas season remains suspended in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections.

He said PDLs could see their loved ones through the "electronic dalaw."  —KBK, GMA News
