PNP-IAS eyes to resolve Nuezca's admin case within 30 days

The Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service is hoping to resolve in 30 dyas the administrative case of Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca, the cop who shot dead a mother and son in Paniqui, Tarlac.

"Thirty days po ang timeline," IAS chief Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo told GMA News Online on Tuesday.

In a separate radio interview, Triambulo said IAS' probe into the case started last Sunday after receiving the report on the fatal shooting incident.

He said the video, which caught the incident, was a strong piece of evidence against the police officer.

"'Yung kanyang video ay malaki po 'yung bagay kasi hindi po 'yan nagsisinungaling. Sabi nga the picture or 'yung mga video clips na 'yan speak of a thousand words," Triambulo said.

The cop shot dead Sonya Rufino Gregorio and her son Frank Anthony in broad daylight after they had a heated argument.

Nuezca surrendered to the authorities. He has been indicted for two counts of murder.

According to the Paniqui Municipal Police Station, Nuezca refused to undergo paraffin test.

They are also awaiting the result of his drug test.

Nuezca is no stranger to administrative cases.

Data obtained by GMA News Online from Police Brigadier General Valeriano De Leon indicated that he had faced grave misconduct (homicide) cases in May and December 2019. Both, however, were dismissed due to lack of substantial evidence.

In 2016, Nuezca was also slapped with serious neglect of duty after failing to attend a court hearing as prosecution witness of a drug-related case. The case was dropped and closed, De Leon said.

Less grave neglect of duty was filed against the Nueza in April 2014 for refusing to take a drug test. Records had shown that he had left the testing area without permission from authorities.

Due to his refusal to take the drug test, he was penalized with a 31-day suspension.

On the other hand, he also faced an administrative case (grave misconduct) in 2013. De Leon said the case was also dropped and closed.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday ordered authorities to make sure Nuezca remains in jail.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año branded the shooting incident as murder.

Lawmakers from the House of Representatives called for an investigation into the killing of the Gregorios.

The Commission on Human Rights condemned the killing, and asked when such incidents would stop. —KG, GMA News
