Sonya Gregorio’s widower fears justice won’t be served against Nuezca in the end

By JOVILAND RITA, GMA News

Florentino Gregorio expressed worry Wednesday that Jonel Nuezca, who killed his wife Sonya and son Frank Anthony in Tarlac, could still enjoy his liberty despite the incident since the cases previously filed against the police officer were dismissed.

Gregorio was baffled that despite the several administrative cases filed against Nuezca, the police is still in the service.

“Yun nga po e. Sa dami ng ano, ‘yun po, nangangamba po ako dahil ang dami niya na palang kaso nakakawala pa rin, pulis pa rin hanggang ngayon,” the widower said in an interview on CNN Philippines.

Gregorio was asked if he had fears that a guilty verdict would not be handed down against Nuezca or the case filed against the cop would not prosper in the end.

“Dahil sa limang ano (kaso) niya, puro nawawalang bisa, nasa serbisyo pa rin siya. Sana mawala na ang pulis na ‘yan sa serbisyo,” he added.

grave misconduct cases in May and December 2019 for homicide. Both cases, however, were dismissed due to lack of substantial evidence.

In 2016, Nuezca was also slapped with serious neglect of duty after failing to attend a court hearing as prosecution witness in a drug-related case. The case was dropped and closed.

Less grave neglect of duty was filed against the Nuezca in April 2014 for refusing to take a drug test. Records had shown that he left the testing area without permission from authorities.

Due to his refusal to take the drug test, he was penalized with a 31-day suspension.

In 2013, he also faced an administrative case (grave misconduct), which was also dropped and closed.

Nuezca was recently demoted from police senior master sergeant to police master sergeant over his extortion case in 2014.
