Pinoy travelers from UK to spend New Year's quarantined at Clark

Several Filipinos from the United Kingdom (UK) who were hoping to spend the New Year with their families in the Philippines were diverted to New Clark City for a mandatory 14-day quarantine amid the new variant of COVID-19 found abroad.

According to Raffy Tima’s Tuesday report on “24 Oras,” this included a mother and her two children who lamented how their celebration, as well as her children’s schooling, would be affected.

“Our New Year celebration maaapektuhan and also schooling ng mga kids and business,” she said.

Foreigners from the UK have been prohibited from entering the country. Though Filipinos are allowed to enter, they must be quarantined.

President Rodrigo Duterte also imposed a ban on travelers from 19 other countries

who have reported cases of the new variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Due to this, 17 other Filipino passengers from Singapore will also be brought to Clark.

Duque however emphasized that the new variant was not more severe.

“Hindi naman. In fact, sinasabi lang mas mabilis siyang makahawa. So wala po,” he said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
