Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief General Gilbert Gapay on Wednesday mourned the death of Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Danilo Lim.

“He will be remembered as a respected leader who carried the AFP’s core values of honor, service and patriotism beyond his military career, as a civilian public servant,” Gapay said in a statement.

“He exemplified the qualities of a true public official who upholds professionalism and integrity as he ably led the MMDA in performing its mandate, and especially its frontline efforts to mitigate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Lim, a retired brigadier general, died on Wednesday morning at the age of 65.

The MMDA chairman announced just last week that he contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), but officials and his family have yet to confirm the cause of his death.

“His comrades in the military and his mistahs from the Philippine Military Academy class of 1978 convey their sympathies to Brigadier General Lim’s loved ones and pray that his soul may rest in peace,” Gapay said. -- BAP, GMA News
