PNP sees no lapse in Makati police probe into Christine Dacera's death

The Philippine National Police said Thursday it does not see lapses in the handling by Makati City law enforcers of the initial investigation on the death of flight attendant Christine Dacera.

"We will not fault the local police because they were just doing their job. In the desire to have their objective of solving the case met with such efficiency, they just thought that was it. File the case," said PNP spokesman Police Brigadier General Ildebrandi Usana.

Usana made the remark in a message to media following the release of three individuals being linked to Dacera's death

Likewise, Usana noted that since the Makati City Prosecutor's Office had ordered the release of the three who were initially linked to the incident --John Pascual Dela Serna III, Rommel Galido, and John Paul Halili --more probe into Dacera's death is still needed.

"That was simply it also... further investigate. But, at least they have started somewhere. Additional evidence po ang kailangan ng prosecutor. That's how the machinery of justice system works," Usana said.

"Ang pinaka-main goal po natin dito is justice for Christine," he added.

Usana said the police should not be discouraged by the "temporary setback to fulfill a good intention" of giving justice for the 23-year-old victim and her grieving family.

On Wednesday night the police released Dacera's friends, who said they were also grieving over her death and want justice to prevail.

Dacera was found dead in the bathtub of a Makati hotel room on New Year’s Day.

Earlier, the PNP insisted that Dacera was raped prior to her death. There was also the speculation that she was drugged.

Dacera's family had also believed she did not die of aortic aneurysm, contrary to the earlier medical report released and has since gone viral in social media.

According to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, the National Bureau of Investigation will conduct a second autopsy on Dacera's body to determine the real cause of her death. —LBG, GMA News
